Security Safety Training
Security - An Industry That Could Be Fatal
The private security sector has been on the rise over the past two decades. According to an article published in Juristat by the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics, there were more people working in private security than police officers in 2001. Five years later, in 2006, a report by Statistics Canada found an additional 15% increase in the number of private security guards. At the time, 68,000 people were employed as police officers, while 102,000 worked as private security personnel.
However, according to the same reports, private security guards were more likely to be fatally injured, mainly because, unlike police officers, the former could not be properly armed. Indeed, to this day, private security personnel must observe the same regulations as ordinary citizens when it comes to carrying firearms.
Under the circumstances, it is essential that employees in the Security sector are rigorously trained to acknowledge, identify, and handle the potential life-threatening dangers associated with their jobs. The list of training programs described below are meant to tackle common risks in Security in order to improve the safety of employees in the workplace.
