What is Scaffolding Safety Training?
Scaffolds and ladders are commonly used on construction sites. Fatal or disabling injuries continue to result from workers falling from the scaffolding that has been misused or poorly constructed on a construction site. The majority of the workers injured in scaffold accidents attribute the accident either to the planking or support giving way or to the employee slipping or being struck by a falling object. For this reason, safety training for each person working on or around scaffolding is critical to a safe worksite.
Who needs Scaffolding Safety Training?
This course is for any employee who may be expected to complete work-related tasks that involve assembling, altering, dismantling, movement, repair, maintenance, inspection and use of the industrial scaffold. Workers on scaffolds can be divided into two groups, erectors/dismantlers and users. Erectors and dismantlers: Erectors and dismantlers are those workers who are mainly responsible for assembling and disassembling scaffolding. This is done before other work can continue, and/or after work has been completed. Users: Scaffold users are those whose work requires them, at least some of the time, to be supported by scaffolding. Employers are required to have a qualified person provide training to each employee who uses the scaffold. The training should teach employees to recognize the hazards associated with the type of scaffold being used. They should also understand the procedures to control or minimize those hazards. This course is designed for tradespeople including drywallers, siding and stucco installers, welders, millwrights, painters, power engineers, masons, insulators, ironworkers etc.
Who is responsible for training?
Employers who use scaffolds in their establishments are responsible for the implementation of scaffold training programs for all workers. That being said, it is the employee’s responsibility to complete the program and apply the safety measures they have learned to maintain their safety and that of their colleagues in the workplace. Upon completion of the course and written exam, a certificate will be issued. Additional training must include a workplace-specific hands-on practical portion.
How Long Is the Certificate Valid?
The standard expiration date of the Scaffolding Safety Training course is 3 years.
