How does the real WHMIS test work?

There is no single national WHMIS exam and no statutory pass mark that applies across Canada. WHMIS education and training — and the way knowledge is evaluated — are the employer's responsibility, delivered by the employer or a provider they choose, subject to whatever their jurisdiction requires.

Whichever course you take, it covers the general education half; your employer must still provide training on the specific products and procedures in your workplace.

The test that counts is the one CCOHS describes: for every hazardous product they work with, workers should be able to say what its hazards are, how they protect themselves from them, what to do in an emergency, and where to get further information. 1
